Science of Fantasy Football Lab
Each week, I will bring a brief update on each team, including the latest injury concerns and performances over the past week. This will also include recommendations for possible waiver wire pickups and suggested FAAB bids. FAAB bids and availability will be based on the FPPC $1000 bankroll. Week eight is in the books. Let’s reason backward to look forward for all 32 teams. Players mentioned as possible waiver wire additions are available in at least 6% of FPPC leagues at this time. At this time of the season, it always pays to double-check the free agents, as team managers often need to cut to make room for a bye-week starter at another position.
Arizona Cardinals
Has Kyler Murray lost his starting job after this offense looked better on MNF with Brissett?
No Waiver Targets This Week
Atlanta Falcons
Almost won against a formidable opponent on the road with Drake London back in the lineup.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Baltimore Ravens
If there was any question why Lamar Jackson is in the running for the MVP award, you just have to see how much better this team can be with Lamar leading the offense.
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Keaton Mitchell is worth a $1 holler this week, and he is available in 33% of FPPC leagues.
Buffalo Bills
Best passing percentage day for Josh Allen, and they only beat the Chiefs by 7?
No Waiver Targets This Week
Carolina Panthers
Won ugly on the road, and Rico Dowdle showed why he should be their starting RB over Chuba Hubbard
No Waiver Targets This Week
Chicago Bears
89 points scored in the battle of the bad defenses, but a win is a win, especially on the road
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Monangai is still worth a $75 bid this week and is available in 17% of FPPC leagues. He might win playing time off that huge performance even when Swift is ready to play.
Cincinnati Bengals
Their old defensive coordinator was not the issue with this defense.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Cleveland Browns
The health of rookie RB Quinshon Judkins is still unknown, heading back from the Bye week.
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Jerome Ford is worth a $5 bid and is available in 15% of leagues.
Dallas Cowboys
If the Cowboys only had a pass rusher they could count on every week
No Waiver Targets This Week
Denver Broncos
Might be the worst 7-2 team in the history of the NFL
Possible Waiver Addition: WR Troy Franklin is seeing a more consistent volume and is worth a $50 bid this week, and he is available in 32% of FPPC leagues.
Detroit Lions
Only their 5th loss at home in the past 3 seasons
No Waiver Targets This Week
Green Bay Packers
Losing to the lowly Panthers while scoring only 13 points at home with over 350 yards of offense is a mystery that needs to be solved if they want to have any hopes of advancing past the first round of the playoffs this season.
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Emmanuel is worth a $10, and he is available in 51% of FPPC leagues. WR Christian Watson had a minor injury last week but is still worth a $10 bid and is still available in 48% of FPPC leagues. Everybody will be trying to add TE Luke Musgrave this week, so if you need a replacement, you will have to bid higher than the $50 bid he is worth.
Houston Texans
Losing Stroud to a concussion cost them a win at home this week, but it was great to see Collins back.
Possible Waiver Addition: If Woody Marks is still available in your league, you can get him for a $100 bid, but he is only available in 8% of FPPC leagues.
Indianapolis Colts
It took six turnovers to get beaten by 7 points; the Colts will be fine going forward.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Jacksonville Jaguars
It has been a while since the Jags were buyers, rather than sellers, at the trade deadline.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Kansas City Chiefs
The worst passing percentage day in Mahomes’ career, and they only lost by 7 points; I think the Chiefs will be just fine down the stretch.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Las Vegas Raiders
The trade of Jakobi Meyers should open the runway for the rookie WRs, but with Bowers back, look for more multiple TE usage in the offense.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Los Angeles Chargers
They lost another offensive lineman to a season-ending injury
Possible Waiver Addition: Kimani Vidal had an awful game, but Hampton won’t be back for several more weeks. A $100 bid is still worth it, and he is still available in 53% of FPPC leagues. TE Oronde Gadsden has been solid and will cost you a $250 bid this week, but he is somehow still available in 32% of FPPC leagues.
Los Angeles Rams
While all the attention is rightfully on the outstanding offense of the Rams, their defense has also performed well this season.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Miami Dolphins
The only mystery right now is when, not if, the coach will be fired.
Possible Waiver Addition: While I would still not trust Tua as my starting QB every week in Fantasy Football, if you need a Bye week replacement in the next 3 weeks, he is worth a $10 bid and is available in 20% of FPPC leagues. Ollie Gordon is available in 23% of leagues and is worth a $20 bid.
Minnesota Vikings
JJ McCarthy looked healthy and looked pretty good last week, which adds more mystery to playing an injured Carson Wentz the previous week.
Possible Waiver Addition: JJ McCarthy is only available in 10% of FPPC leagues, but he would make an excellent plug-and-play guy for the Bye weeks and should be affordable with a $50 bid.
New England Patriots
Usually, the injury to Boutte could open the door for the rookie WR Kyle Williams, but I see more double TE and Mack Hollins usage instead.
No Waiver Targets This Week
New Orleans Saints
The Tyler Shough era of the team made many fans long for the good old days of the Spencer Rattler era in New Orleans.
Possible Waiver Wire Addition: RB Devin Neal is the clear backup to Kamara with Miller out, but not worth more than a $5 speculative bid on FPPC, where he is available in 30% of leagues.
New York Giants
Jaxson Dart is a consistent fantasy football quarterback and performs well in real football as well, keeping a below-average team looking better than average.
Possible Waiver Wire Addition: Devin Singletary is still worth a $1 holler this week and is available in 94% of leagues.
New York Jets
Trading away some of their key defensive players is a sign they have given up on the season in real football, and that could be good news for Fantasy Football shares from the passing game.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Philadelphia Eagles
Tank Bigsby was removed from the waivers add portion of this article because he is only available in less than 4% of FPPC leagues, but with injury concerns to Saquon, he is worth adding if you can find him.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Pittsburgh Steelers
If the Steelers' defense can continue to turn other teams over, this could still be a solid season, but they did give up over 360 yards in total offense.
No Waiver Targets This Week
San Francisco 49ers
It was a bit surprising with all their injuries at WR that the 49ers didn’t add either Jakobi Meyers or Rashid Shaheed for those discount prices, but maybe that’s a sign that Aiyuk is coming back soon.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Seattle Seahawks
Adding another WR for QB Sam Darnold might indicate that the Cooper Kupp injury is worse than we all expected.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Will the Bucs return from their Bye with a healthier team, or was the offensive crash we saw before the Bye a sign that the injuries have caught up with them?
No Waiver Targets This Week
Tennessee Titans
If this team can build a strong offensive line, they could be significantly better next season. Rookie WRs Dike and Ayomanor look solid, and rookie TE Gunnar Helm also looks like an interesting player, but limited upside for any Titan in Fantasy Football this season.
Possible Waiver Addition: WR Chimere Dike is turning into a solid long-range threat for a QB with a live arm. Dike is still worth a $10 bid on FPPC and is available in 58% of leagues.
Washington Commanders
Nasty-looking injury to QB Jayden Daniels in garbage time could be it for this team’s hopes for making the playoffs this year.
Possible Waiver Addition: If you are QB needy with the injuries and bye weeks, Marcus Mariota is a solid addition worth a $50 bid and is available in 86% of FPPC leagues.
No Waiver Targets This Week
QB JJ McCarthy $50
QB Marcus Mariota $50
QB Tua Tagliavoa $10
RB Woody Marks $100
RB Kimani Vidal $100
RB Kyle Monangai $75
RB Ollie Gordon $20
RB Emmanuel Wilson $10
RB Devin Neal $5
RB Jerome Ford $5
RB Devin Singletary $1
RB Keaton Mitchell $1
WR Troy Franklin $50
WR Christian Watson $10
WR Chimere Dike $10
TE Oronde Gadsden $250
TE Luke Musgrave $50
Next Man Up Index will return next week!
