Science of Fantasy Football Lab
Each week, I will bring a brief update on each team, including the latest injury concerns and performances over the past week. This will also include recommendations for potential waiver-wire pickups and suggested FAAB bids. FAAB bids and availability will be based on the FPPC $1000 bankroll. Week seven is in the books. Let’s reason backward to look forward for all 32 teams. Players mentioned as possible waiver wire additions are available in at least 6% of FPPC leagues at this time. At this time of the season, it always pays to double-check the free agents, because team managers often must cut to make room for a bye-week starter at another position.
Arizona Cardinals
The lack of a running attack is hurting the Cardinals, but in their defense, they are down to their 4th and 6th options at the position.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Atlanta Falcons
A minor injury to Penix might be good news for balancing this offense's attack.
Possible Waiver Addition: Kirk Cousins is worth a $20 bid if you are needy at QB this week and he is available in 69% of FPPC leagues.
Baltimore Ravens
Lamar was not at practice to start the week, and if they are missing him again after their Bye week, they can kiss this season goodbye.
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Keaton Mitchell is worth a $1 holler this week, and he is available in 31% of FPPC leagues.
Buffalo Bills
I will be a little surprised if they don’t find Josh Allen some help at WR before the trade deadline.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Carolina Panthers
The injury to Bryce Young opens the door for veteran QB Andy Dalton to take over, and that could be good news for the receivers in Fantasy Football.
Possible Waiver Addition: WR Jalen Coker didn’t do much in his first week back, but is still worth a $1 holler on FPPC, and he is still available in 17% of leagues.
Chicago Bears
Swift came out of his bye week with two straight 20+ PPR point games, and that could be great news moving forward for this Bears offense.
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Monangai is worth a $25 bid this week and is available in 18% of FPPC leagues. He is now the clear backup to Swift.
Cincinnati Bengals
Trading for Flacco might save the Bengals' season.
Possible Waiver Addition: The rushing game showed signs of life last week, so you might want to add the backup to Chase Brown. RB Tahj Brooks is worth a $1 bid and is available in 31$ of FPPC leagues.
Cleveland Browns
Rookie RB Quinshon Judkins showed why the Browns were so high on him in the NFL draft with a 3 TD game, and that won’t be his last. Give rookie QB Dillon Gabriel a pass last week with the wind howling.
Possible Waiver Addition: QB Dillon Gabriel is worth a $50 speculation bid on FPPC this week, where he is available in 78% of leagues.
Dallas Cowboys
If the Cowboys continue to play defense the way they did last week, there is still hope for them in real NFL football, but it might hurt our Fantasy Football shares for Dak.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Denver Broncos
QB Bo Nix had fans worried for three quarters, then singing his praises after a 19-point comeback in the fourth quarter, but it was the Giants, so we shouldn’t get too excited.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Detroit Lions
The new Defensive Coordinator is doing a better job than last year’s DC, who left to be the Head Coach of the winless Jets, and meanwhile Jamyr Gibbs and Amon Ra St Brown are in another league of their own in Fantasy Football.
No Waiver Targets This Week
Green Bay Packers
This offense needs to pick up the pace if they want to go farther than just making the playoffs this season, but on defense, the addition of Micah Parsons is making that defense one of the best.
Possible Waiver Addition: RB Emmanuel Wilson is the clear backup to Josh Jacobs, and you should be able to get him for $1. He is available in 58% of FPPC leagues.
Houston Texans
We might have seen a changing of the guard at the Texans' lead RB spot, but only the West Coast people were awake to see it.
Possible Waiver Addition: If Woody Marks is still available in your league, you can get him for a $100 bid, but he is only available in 8% of FPPC leagues.
Indianapolis Colts
Raise your hand if you picked the Colts to be the top seed in the AFC this season, and then lower your hand because you are a liar!
No Waiver Targets This Week
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars played last week in London, but they could still hear the boo birds from Duvall County.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes was already having an MVP-type season, and now he has his second favorite pass catcher back, ready to rock, and all those threats in the passing game have opened up the running attack for Pacheco.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Las Vegas Raiders
The experiment of pairing journeyman Geno Smith with the league's oldest Head Coach has been a disaster.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Los Angeles Chargers
QB Justin Herbert threw for over 400 yards, but his 2 INTs upset fans, who are tired of seeing the Chargers lose the division to the Chiefs.
Possible Waiver Addition: Kimani Vidal is still available in 53% of leagues, and you can get him cheaper this week after a bad game. A $50 bid is worth it. TE Oronde Gadsden had a huge game and will cost you a $100 bid this week, yet he is still somehow available in 41% of FPPC leagues.
Los Angeles Rams
Most teams spend the entire week in London when they play there, but the Rams showed that jet lag can make football players angry —and angry players hit harder.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Miami Dolphins
Injuries to Waddle and Waller added injury to the insult of another horrible game by Tua. Meanwhile, the drama of wondering when the coach might be fired hangs over this entire team. While the injuries open opportunities, I’m not sure I would invest in this offense right now.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Minnesota Vikings
It could have been smarter to keep Sam Darnold. After winning 14 games last season, the Vikings have fallen to the bottom of the division this year.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
New England Patriots
Drake Maye set a franchise record for accuracy, and when the franchise also featured a Hall of Fame QB known for his accuracy, that’s quite the accomplishment.
Possible Waiver Wire Addition: Kayshon Boutte is a big-play WR who is a boom/bust guy but would make a good plug-and-play during Byemaggedon. He is worth a $40 bid and is available in 48% of FPPC leagues.
New Orleans Saints
An injury to backup RB Kendre Miller might bring more volume to veteran Alvin Kamara, or it could mean more volume for rookie RB Devin Neal.
Possible Waiver Addition: QB Spencer Rattler is worth a $1 bid in FPPC leagues and is available in 66% of leagues. Devin Neal is worth a $20 bid as the next man up at RB and is available in 63% of FPPC leagues.
New York Giants
The answer to which receiver would step up to be the second option in the passing game was two TEs instead.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
New York Jets
One week after telling a reporter that asking if Justin Fields’ position as starting QB was in jeopardy, first-year coach Aaron Glenn benched Fields for the second half.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles' passing game came to life, but their running game looks pedestrian this season.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers TEs are scoring lots of points in Fantasy Football this year, but with four of them, it’s hard to guess which guy will have the big game any given week.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
San Francisco 49ers
Now that TE George Kittle got his cardio work in his first week back, would it be asking too much for him to return to form this week?
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Seattle Seahawks
Zach Charbonnet is taking over as the preferred RB in the passing game and in short yardage down by the goal line. Only a trade to an RB-needy team can boost Ken Walker’s value again.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Another game for the Bucs, and another WR injury —but this time, it was to one of the WRs returning from injury. A concussion and collarbone combo should end Mike Evans' season, keeping him short of 1000 yards for the first time in his long and illustrious career.
Possible Waiver Addition: Rookie WR Tez Johnson is worth a $50 bid this week and is available in 71% of FPPC leagues.
Tennessee Titans
Rookie QB Cam Ward is starting to make improvements every week, but he has a long way to go.
No Waiver Targets This Week.
Washington Commanders
The NFL made sure to injure QB Jayden Daniels’ hamstring before their big showdown against the Chiefs, showing once again how rigged this league is right now in the Chiefs' favor.
Possible Waiver Addition: QB Marcus Mariota is a brilliant addition for anyone whose team is affected by the combo of injuries and six teams on Bye this week. He is worth a $25 bid and is available in 95% of FPPC leagues.
QB Dillon Gabriel $50
QB Marcus Mariota $25
QB Spencer Rattler $1
RB Woody Marks $100
RB Kyle Monangai $25
RB Devin Neal $20
RB Keaton Mitchell $1
RB Emmanuel Wilson $1
RB Tahj Brooks $1
RB Isaac Guerrendo $1
RB Jarquez Hunter $1
WR Tez Johnson $50
WR Kayshon Boutte $40
WR Jalen Coker $1
TE Oronde Gadsden $100
Every week, this list will adjust based on the MVP25 of the player above them and their chances of taking over the needed volume. Players owned in 95% or more of FPPC leagues will not be mentioned in the list above, but it’s always a great idea to see what players your league mates have dropped during the Bye weeks.
