2026 Fantasy Football Lab is Open for Business
Total Fantasy Football points and even Points per Game can be deceiving. In Fantasy Football, we want to know not only who the hot players are early in the season, but also which players have been productive over a longer period. My rankings utilize four separate indexes that are explained below to give a rating for each player. Let us look at who the leaders of the pack are in Fantasy Football after week eight.
MVP Index Explained
Every week in Fantasy Football, a player’s statistics can have three possible outcomes. They can help your team win by having a huge points week. They can cause your team to lose with a very low-scoring week. They can keep your team in contention by performing above the historic median output. The MVP Index combines these three outcomes into one easy-to-understand number. While the historic median for Fantasy Football points differs by position, using the same expected performance level for RB, WR, and TE gives us a score to compare while making Flex starting decisions all season.
MVP26 Explained
This index uses the same formula as the MVP Index above, but the data is only used from this season. All games played are used to give a true value to each player, as if they started them for every game this year in Fantasy Football.
Upside Index Explained
While consistency matters in Fantasy Football, weekly upside consistency matters even more. The UPSIDE INDEX calculates a player’s best 1/3rd of his games over the past 2 seasons plus the current season. This extended database gives us a better idea of a player’s long-term form, not just the few data points represented by the current season. Each week, the data is weighted more heavily toward the current season.
GOOD Index Explained
In the NFL, young players often struggle early in their careers. While the MVP Index does a solid job of keeping up with the latest player developments, the GOOD Index only counts a player's best games over the past 2 seasons plus the current season. This index values rookie and second-year players lower because they have fewer total games to post a high GOOD Index, but it rewards players who stay healthy and productive over a longer time frame.
Scoring System Used
Regular 1-point-per-reception scoring is used, with no TE premium applied. Players get 1 point for every 10 yards of rushing and receiving yards and 1 point for every 25 yards of passing. TDs count 6 points for rushing and 4 points for passing TDs.

Hard to believe we've already reached the halfway point of the season.
The top QB group is deeper than it has been over the past six seasons, with 11 players with an MVP26 of 100 or better compared to a median of 6.5.
The group of super-elite RBs (MVP26 over 120) is twice the median over the last six years, but there are fewer at the RB2 level (MVP26 over 80).
Usually, we see 10.5 WRs with an MVP26 rating of 100, and this season there are 15; but again, the WR2 level is running 5.5 players below the median over the last six seasons.
Only two TEs are truly elite, but some of the most expensive TEs in the draft haven't lived up to expectations. Some of the cheap older TEs like Travis Kelce and George Kittle have paid dividends so far.
Good luck with your Fantasy Football lineups this week.
