Preseason Week 3 – August 27–29, 2026
The GSPI (Game Script Predictive Index) attempts to project passing and rushing levels to help with team and player prop understanding.
This is the final 16-game preseason slate before the 90-to-53 cutdown on Sunday, August 30, and the regular-season opener on September 9. Most locked starters are expected to sit or play only token snaps, shifting volume to backups, bubble veterans, and rookies. Consensus lines remain short and totals compressed, consistent with exhibition scoring and rest-heavy rotations.
Week 3 is a rest week for most locked starters ahead of the August 30 cutdown. Expected DNPs or token-only snaps include Josh Allen (Buffalo), Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders (Cleveland), Lamar Jackson and Jayden Daniels after a joint-practice week (Baltimore/Washington), Matthew Stafford and most Rams first-team skill players, and the bulk of projected Week 1 starters league-wide.
Buffalo / Pittsburgh: Kyle Allen / Shane Buechele and Steelers backup QBs; depth RBs and bubble WRs.
Cleveland / New England: Browns third-string QB rotation (Dillon Gabriel / Taylen Green) and Patriots backups behind Drake Maye if the starter sits.
Las Vegas / San Francisco: Raiders depth behind Kirk Cousins; 49ers second- and third-string skill players.
Chargers / Rams: Trey Lance / DJ Uiagalelei and Rams QBs Stetson Bennett and Ty Simpson; backup RBs on both sides.
Atlanta / Miami: Possible limited Falcons starter work; Dolphins depth after a negative-script projection.
Jets / Giants and Buccaneers / Jaguars: Second-string skill groups in MetLife and Jacksonville.
Denver / Minnesota: Broncos depth with a Strong Positive script; Vikings backups under a Strong Negative script.
Indianapolis / Detroit: Colts have indicated second-, third-, and fourth-string volume, with Riley Leonard / Anthony Richardson in the backup-QB evaluation.
Tennessee / Chicago: Final-game snaps for bubble players on both sides.
Arizona and Carolina are playing a fourth preseason game; extra evaluation snaps for their depth pieces remain relevant.
Strong/Mild Positive Script Effects
RBs: Elevated rush attempts and short-yardage work for the backups inheriting carries.
QBs: Reduced dropback volume and lower passing-prop ceilings.
WR/TE: Mildly suppressed target volume; efficiency can still appear on fewer looks.
Neutral Script Effects
Balanced rush/pass mix with limited directional bias for any position group.
Strong/Mild Negative Script Effects
RBs: Suppressed rush volume and fewer high-value carries.
QBs: Elevated pass attempts among the players who actually take snaps.
WR/TE: Increased target opportunities for primary and secondary receiving options in the second and third units.
Decision Framework
Treat Week 3 as a snap-share market first and a script market second. Apply GSPI direction only to players confirmed to play meaningful series. Discount any prop tied to a locked starter who is expected to rest. Prefer Strong labels with medium-to-high script confidence, then layer weather (Miami heat, Denver altitude) only as a secondary adjustment.
Highest-Conviction Prop Angles for the Week
Backup RBs on Denver, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, and Buffalo under Positive scripts.
Second-string QBs and pass-catchers on Minnesota, Miami, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and the Jets under Negative scripts.
High-snap bubble WRs/TEs in Cleveland, Las Vegas, the Rams–Chargers game, and the Colts–Lions evaluation game where starters are largely held out.
Three strongest positive-script teams
Denver Broncos (Strong Positive): Expected +18–22% rush-volume multiplier and a corresponding reduction in pass rate.
Atlanta Falcons (Strong Positive): Expected +16–20% rush-volume multiplier.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Strong Positive): Expected +15–19% rush-volume multiplier.
Three strongest negative-script teams
Minnesota Vikings (Strong Negative): Expected +18–22% pass-volume multiplier and a suppressed rush share.
Miami Dolphins (Strong Negative): Expected +16–20% pass-volume multiplier.
Pittsburgh Steelers (Strong Negative): Expected +15–19% pass-volume multiplier.
